Re: Coronavirus contains HIV genes
I have some comments and questions for the elders/pastors among us…
As of 11:00 pm last evening our governor here in Michigan has ordered all schools to close until April 3rd for the safety of all. Dr. Fauci said on GMA moments ago that while this doesn’t seem to be effecting children if exposed to Covid-19 it could be carried to grandma or whoever… he also said that before this thing is contained it could be up to another 8 weeks at the least.
So here is where I am going… my pastor’s wife told me last night the pastor in Spain (can’t think of his name) has canceled services for a time because of the virus. Others of us may have to do the same. I know in caring for my 89 year old mother we may just do SS and not the 11 am service due to our church running over 2,000…
I think these things are appropriate measures, however… this was posted by someone last night, “We’re about to see who the real Apostolics are in America. The early church would’ve went to prison before they shut down worship.”
Because I didn’t want to confront an elder online I didn’t respond, but can y’all help me here?
Didn’t the 1st Church in the beginning worship from house to house? And if the state or feds want to limit spreading this is it wrong to ask us to limit the size or even to suspend meetings for a time? And isn’t doing the above and closing all houses of worship on a permanent level two different things?
For the record: NO ONE can shut down my worship!!! My worship is not based on where I am or if my pastor is preaching!!! While we should forsake not the assembling of ourselves, I don't believe I’m not going to yon lower regions if required to make temporary adjustments. If that is what people think then we have a lot of religiosity and lack a personal relationship with God.
We are SO spoiled! America has no real conception of the things third-world endure on a daily basis. So our store shelves are bare… how many of us have to walk miles for a jug of water, carrying it home on our heads? We may have to endure hardship, but it is my prayer that the Church can set the example of enduring this with some dignity.
Sorry for the long post… one more point regarding church services, Bro. Bernard sent out this letter in part, “…we will follow the recommendations or instructions of governmental and health officials. The appropriate district board or ministry committee will make any decision to postpone or cancel a meeting. Local churches may need to consider options for small group meetings, online services, and electronic contributions.”
What say ye?
