Hence the early Christians were called παραβαλανεῖς, which in Latin is parabalani. The title was given to people who risked their lives taking care of the contagious sick. Contrary to popular belief, being a Christian in the first century was a dangerous job, and evangelizing during the time when Christians were enemies of Rome even more precarious. Jesus stands out on leprosy issue because He allowed the lepers to approach Him. He heals them, and tells them to go and show themselves to the priests as prescribed by the law. Take precautions, wash your hands, brush your teeth, use the boudet, and toilet paper. Use listerine, wash everything down with lysol, and sit back and drink a big orange slurpee. But the early Christians had a lot more on their plates then what we face today. Yet, the Christians were the brave, the Romans liked bravery. Christians who would stand in the arena and not panic when the wild animals were let out. Who would stand and pray while gladiators attacked. Because death wasn't the end, death was the reward. Be careful for nothing, didn't mean to jump off the pinnacle of the temple hoping an angel would swoop down and save you. But, don't fear anything, because no matter what, whether you live or die, you still win. Coronavirus? People are really suffering out there with all sorts of issues, and churches are considering closing? Locking their doors so a gunmen wouldn't shoot the place up? Hey, do what you need to do, but Jesus is our only hope when the rubber meets the road.
