Matt 23:34-35

34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:

35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
KJV

Here's who are guilty of killing the prophets...

That's right.

A backslidden church is still doing it today as they have through out the ages. Nothing has changed. It is a matter of state of affairs NOT particularly of history.

Here in Matt 23, Jesus told the Old Covenant Jews that they were guilty. Does someone else pay for what they did?

And what was the consequences of the backslidden church that killed the prophets?

Mat 23:37 ¶ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, [thou] that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under [her] wings, and ye would not!

Mat 23:38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

Mat 23:39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed [is] he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Judgment was already passed at the time Jesus spoken those words.

Backslidden churches will always do it. The RCC church, the Apostasized Apostolic Church did it also...and is still doing it today. Yet, their house was left unto them desolate as the Word of God said that it would happen.

Still, the consequenes is the same as it ever was then...the desolation. First comes the abominations, then what follows in an unrepentant church is the desolation, when Christ removes its lampstand from out of its place.
