Different meanings for different groups.
Folks gather in a circle - each playing their own drums of choice. It is not a production or entertainment per say, but is an experience for all to participate communally.
Pagan and tribal roots - for sure.

Do you get to chant while in the circle banging the drum?
I like drum lines and sometimes they form circles.........

I am sure that can be incorporated. LOL!
My initial questions are serious - if anyone can comment from experience.

I guess it depends on motive. Seems like it's a way for some to let out the "savage" man.
But does drumming get God's attention?
Does God respond to us with a drumming in nature?

Right. Good questions that I would like to see answered in this thread - and hopefully including those who are or have been a part of circles.

On one occassion when I took my kids camping in a wilderness area we were kind of "in sync" with a group of hippie kids. By "in sync" I mean that pattern that develops when different groups of hikers find themselves arriving at similar places at around the same times.
I'm certain that the hippies were "herbal" users and all even though they were kind enough to be discrete. They sat around late into the night drumming away and seemed to be having fun and enjoying their "community" in the wilds. That was my only experience with the drumming circle. I know that some of the "male bonding" seminar stuff that was popular in the early 90's involved drumming.
Whatever, as long as its not annoying.

Totally optional.
