I have worked with some native Indians who were filled with the Holy GHost and baptized in Jesus' name, and left their traditional religion. They are ADAMANT AGAINST anything to do with these sorts of things in the church. They tell me they used drums to attract the spirits of their religion. They used drums predominantly in powows. Some Indians have taken this and incorporated it into Christianity, and had Christian POWOWS, but these folks with whom I worked would NEVER do that in a million years.
The bible is plain about taking rites from other religious circles and incorporating them into the worship of God. Ezekiel 20 spoke loudly about polluting God's name with such things. In short, use only what the WORD said to use in worship.
When David took the Philistines' use of an ox cart into the return of the Ark of the Covenant, God smote Uzzah, and David learned he had not sought God after the "due order". The Word already said how to carry the ark -- on priests' shoulders.
We need not concoct anything to add to what the Bible said about worship. Let's build according to the PATTERN, and only use the DUE ORDER. I do not believe God blesses our added ideas.

I watched something on the internet this past year.......don't know if it was General Conference '06, or something else. But there was a whole 'line' (not circle) of drummers drumming. I'm pretty sure it was UPC
Is this what you are talking about?

Sis S, the drum circles are so called because they include everyone and often folks sit in circles, promoting a sense of community. Hand druming is easily enjoyed by people of all ages and can be as natural as clapping hands.
As with anything, it can be done to self or satan and with or without a bong water pipe!
I have zero experience in this but do know some people who are into it and speak highly of it.

I am not trying to promote this for any type of church worship.

Speaking of drums...
Last night I was blessed to hear a young Nigerian named Isaac perform with a drum and sing a song in Yoruba that, if his translation was true, was glorifying to God. He was really putting everything he had into a song. This happened at a meeting of the "International Friends of East Texas" at a local Baptist church in Tyler. Don't know him from Adam, but don't knock the drumming because it's strange to you (general you there).

This is such an ignorant thread....anyone who would even think of incorporating something like this into Apostolic worship needs thier head examined...of course if this became part of your worship, it wouldn't be Apostolic anymore would it.

Pagan and tribal roots - for sure.

I KNEW IT!!
We, at the highly esteemed Apostolic Friends Forum are cutting edge!!
Just got Perspectives magazine... right there on the inside cover, an interesting article by Paul Mooney about the resurgence of Drum Circles!
We have been on this for months.
Nice to know he reads here...

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:
- There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
- The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
- Every sinner must repent of their sins.
- That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
- That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
- The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.
