Why are UPC church's so sectarian?

When I was in Bible School in St. Paul, MN in 1956/1957 someone told me that there were about 30 Oneness Pentecostal churches in Bloomington, IN and many would not acknowledge or fellowship one another. I don't know how accurate that was back then or if it is accurate now.

Depends on how big of an area you include in the count, but it's not hard to come up with that many within a short distance from Bloomington.

In general it's not that bad around here.... There are some people that have a corncob farther up their hindend than others do, but in general among most churches there's not a great deal of contempt for others around them....

That doesn't mean that everybody fellowships with each other..... Fellowship in general between churches seems to be a thing of the past in large part. People just don't take time or make any effort to associate with each other anymore.

But in Indiana the UACoJC has a monthly fellowship meeting.
You participate and you are not (as far as I know) a part of that organization. I keep thinking I might get to one of those meetings but so far I haven't. (I would not wear my shorts, tee shirt, and sandals). How well attended are those meetings? And are they just UACoJC folks or do they draw from a wider group? And where is the meeting going to be on September 28th?

The UACJC fellowship meetings are one of the few fellowship meetings that take place....the UACJC churches in general are more "old fashioned" than a lot of churches. But even at that, fellowship is segregated a lot... Maybe churches will fellowship with a few within their own little circle, but they won't have anything to do with the church across town or down the street.

The UACJC fellowship meetings are attended by mostly those within the org, but there are a few others as well. And attendance varies. It depends on where it's being hosted. Certain locations seem to have more draw than others.

At the last meeting they announced the next one would be in Brooklyn, but I just got the flyer in the mail today, and it states it will be in Tipton for September, so I guess they changed it.

Tipton? That's where the late Rev. L.R. Ooton lived. But, I guess that's before your time (or before the time of most on this forum). I don't know when he died but when I saw him in the nineteen seventies he was an old man.

According to Map Quest the church in Tipton, IN is 144.82 miles and 2 hours, 24 minutes from my house. It doesn't look like I'll be trying to drive there and back on a Friday night.

L.R. Ooton was an old timer. I'm not sure when he was born or when he died. He was preaching in 1915, maybe earlier. I saw him in the nineteen seventies and he was an old man then. In 1941 he was part of a group that left the PAJC and established an organization called the AMA (Apostolic Ministerial Alliance). At one time it had about 1000 members according to the Fudge book (page 62). I used to preach at a church in Dayton, OH where Bro. William Coleman pastored. He was with the AMA and also with the ALJC. In the nineteen seventies when I saw Eld. L.R. Ooton there, the AMA had only a few churches. I'm not sure how large they are now. Eld. Epley said he thought they had some churches in Illinois.
