As I stated, not hardly as extreme as the others.
I've seen preachers who didn't allow their members to celebrate Christmas and give or receive gifts but EXPECTED their members to shower THEM with gifts at Thanksgiving.
I've heard the hair up / hair down
Women and girls have to wear pantyhose
Girls told they could not get perms
No open toed shoes
of course the usual, no make up, no cutting hair, no pants on women -- some not even wearing pjs.
In some circles young people have to date within their local church -- gets pretty scarce at times and they end up marrying relatives and having children.
Some pastors telling the young people who to date and marry - not ADVICE or counseling, just picking their mate. OF COURSE they heard from God on that!!
Thankfully although raised in UPC I wasn't under that sort of leadership. Standards were taught but not some of this other hogwash. I have run into some of this stuff in recent years. I did have family involved in an COJC situation in Kentucky that was pretty extreme.
