Re: I remember when...
Did anyone other than Illinois youth campers have "Holy Ghost Class" in the afternoons? Eddie just laughed when I told him that; he had never heard of having one. It was basically this - Bro. Taylor (from Elgin) would lead us in about a hundred courses of "I'm Not Sorry; I'm Not Sorry that I Answered the Master's Call" or some such chorus and then those perpetual seekers (like ME!) would come to the front and pray for an hour or so, wearing out all of our friends before dinner.
I had no idea that the Holy Ghost was so easy to receive; I wore the saints out for seven years!

I remember in the Illinois Dist, one year they had Roland Gardner preach and also direct the camp choir. He taught us "Oh Happy Day", and my father (who was on the District board) said that there was a big uproar of complaints that rock-n-roll had made it's way into the church! l

I remember Judy Doughty used to preach for us when I was a real little girl, before she was a Doughty (can't remember her maiden name). She used to take me and my sister to the DQ for a 10 cent Dilly Bar because our grandpa was the pastor and we would stay at their house in the afternoons while my mom worked.
Also, we had Bro. Arnold, but it wasn't Jeff - it was Enoch Arnold. This one had a speech problem, but he could preach! I remember him singing "You Gotta Move". Ed Lucas used to preach for us when he was still a single young guy and all the girls were swooning over him. Can't remember many more names, but I remember the good times.

Ed Lucas married a girl from our church...
How much do you think those precious memories impacted your young life, Sherri...I mean in regards to the type of ministry you are in today?!
I've looked at this question three times...does it make sense?!

I absolutely grew up loving church! I wouldn't miss for anything (except once a year when Cinderella came on Disney, sometimes I would feel a little sick that night!!). LOL!
But I always loved the presence of God and that affected me all through my life. I had a succession of pastors/pastors wives; some I learned good things from, some not so good. But it didn't stop me from wanting to be a pastor's wife.
The evangelists sometimes stayed in our house because it was a much larger house than the parsonage that the pastor lived in, and there were no hotels back then in little towns. Getting to know that evangelists were some of the best times of my little life.

Do you remember MJ Wolfe having us repeat the scripture EVERY YEAR about "Think on these things...."? I guess he thought someday it would soak in!
Do you remember Melody Lloyd having huge hair and she always looked like a princess, even in the middle of the hot days? I never did fit with the Patty Pentecost crowd. LOL!

I remember when it was the norm for the evangelists to stay with the pastor and his family. Folks would pick a night to bring something to the pastor's house, be it dessert or whatever to help out for dinner during revivals.
We all have a great heritage, don't we?!
Thank God for precious memories...
I remember going to campground and the cost was $15 and I had $5 to spend...
