Thad, let me ask you a question. If your pastor suddenly preached that you had to wear a suit coat at all times in all seasons, would you do it? I mean, this is something he's preaching to all the men, not just those on the platform, and also claiming that it's Bible and using a scripture to back him up.
Let's say that your pastor says that in accordance to 1 Cor 11, all men had to keep their heads shorn (cut very close, like a sheep) or shaven, would you? Would all men in your church comply just because the preacher said so?
Just asking......

I'm planning to start a hair thread this week sometime so I'm going to save my comments for later plus it's getting so late my mind is going fuzzy on me.
as far as my pastor requiring me to wear a coat in all seasons ?? and having scriptures to back it ?? there are none ! there is nothing remotley close to such a rule in the bible whereas with the hair it is address by the apostle Paul who instructs as that is a shame unto God for a woman to have cut hair or shaved hair.
the bible requires our reasonable service- wearing a coat in 110 degree desert heat is naturally unreasonable whereas adhering to St Paul's instructions that a woman's hair is given for her glory is out of the bible God's holy word.
I want to discuss this hair issue further because it is one that I have never really deleved into

Thad, I'll await your hair thread, but just wanted to point out that the bolded part above isn't scripture. It's what people are taught that scripture says, but you won't find it there, I promise you.
Paul says IF it be a shame, let her be covered. Never says that a woman shouldn't cut her hair. Never says it's a shame to have cut hair.
However, your pastor tells you to wear a suit coat at all times, and uses a scripture to back his claim. You read the scripture and say 'that doesn't say what he says it's saying at all'. That's how I feel about 'the hair chapter'. It doesn't say what others say it's saying at all.

Hair: the last time a pair of scissors touched my hair was when I was about 8 and had to cut out a wad of chewing gum! My long, uncut hair is my glory. Why would I want to cut my glory off?
Makeup - non colored lip gloss, chapstick. .I don't feel there is anything wrong with some powder for blemishes, although I don't use it too often.
Attire: nylons - rarely. I hate them. When I do wear them, they are either ivory, white or jet black. Sleeves range from midway between shoulder and elbow, to the wrist. If I raise my hand and you can see my armpit or more, then they are too short and/or baggy. Skirts - knee length to ankles (I have all lengths in between). Slits are okay as long as they don't go above the knee. No pants at all. . .ok, I do wear sweats when I am lounging around the house or going to bed!
Jewelry - wedding ring. I have a few watches but always forget to put them on so they collect dust in a box on my dresser.
I have kept the same standards that I was taught to know and love. Some things may not be salvational, and I know that, but why take the chance? And if my Pastor asks it of me or requires it and I refuse to comply, well then I think that's called rebellion and that definately is salvational. I have no problem following these standards. . . .

There are people who make this statement but I wonder how far they would go in regard to blind obedience.
I know churches who don't allow any combination of the following:
open toed shoes, watches, any jewelry at all, no certain colors for attire, only unseen items in the hair, no perfume, no shaving of any hair on the women, etc.
I wonder how far one would go and continue to say that refusing to comply would mean they are in rebellion.
If your pastor suddenly preached that you should stop shaving your pits and legs, would you? Without question?

Raven..No offense but your double talking here....If you wear sweats you DO wear pants.
Actually, my old sweat pants are my pajamas so I don't think they really count? But I suppose if you want to get technical, then yes, I do wear pants. Sweat pants. . .to bed.

If my Pastor preached ANYTHING that I had a very hard time with and felt I could not follow, I suppose I would find me a different church pastored by someone I could follow. Rebellion is rebellion, IMO. I would rather find a pastor I could sit under w/no problems rather than continue to sit under one I openly disobeyed. If I felt my Pastor was off the deep end and I could no longer follow his guidance, then I would find someone else under whom I could. Again, this is just my own personal preference/opinion. .

I can understand that, and I agree.
But what if you lived in an area where churches were far and few between, like say, 75 miles one way?
And I'm not saying this to make things difficult. I once lived in an area where I had to travel 65 miles one way for church, having no other choice. If I couldn't attend that one, I'd have had to travel about 75 miles one way. Thus the reason why I'm asking you. I mean, is something as silly as what I mentioned above enough to make you cut tied to a church family you have been a part of and go elsewhere?
