While I think 4,000 lives lost is 4,000 too many, to say that it's massive loss for a war is a severe overstatement. We've been in Iraq for 5 years now. The Iraqis have lost scores of thousands more.
Tell that to the families of the slain US soldiers....

Brother, I show my patriotism every time I make a point of not cheating on my taxes, especially when I am self employed. I also show my patriotism when I go vote. I don't need to sign some dumb song and put my hand over my heart while repeating the pledge to know that I am patriotic. This is just my opinion though. Hope that doesn't get me kicked out of the Three Muskateers Club though. It's nice to belong to something again.
I am beginning to wonder what happened to the fourth musketeer? In all seriousness, it is my opinion that the Star Spangled Banner isn't a "dumb song" and being patriotic is more than lip service.
As an American, you have every right to express your opinion and I would defend your right and did defend your right while serving in the military. A presidential contender should be held to a higher standard than Joe Schmo Public and Obama's refusal to honor the flag and country can not be excused, Rico.

I know several. Without exception, they know how their boys felt about that war and even though their loss is felt, they died for what they believed was right. I'd hope that any of us would do the same.
There is nothing more honorable than laying down your life for a friend, regardless if that friend's life is thought to be worth saving by the masses. I'm glad someone did that for me. Someone did that for you too. I hope you appreciate it and are glad that someone didn't stop them.
You might be a slave without their blood shed. Think about that.

Isn't this a volunteer army?

I know boys that came home after one run only to be killed running the second time. Their families are proud of them. One family, who's son came home one Christmas but was going back and subsequently killed a month later said that the passion in their son's eyes for fighting in what he believed was right made his death more bearable.
He spoke about the Iraqis being so grateful for their sacrifice and the many friends he'd made there. He said the media will not show the good that is coming from this war, the good that he saw coming from it.
But yes, this is a volunteer army. Those men and women are going willingly to fight for something they believe in.
