Pardon my language would you all? I was preached at for dressing like a "upc fag" on more than one occasion.
i wore my hair parted in the middle and got preached at
i wore a red hankerchief in my breast pocket and got preached at
i wore elastic waisted pants to the store and got preached at because the preacher saw me.
that was all before i was even an adult
now days i get preached at for my beard, my tv, my wedding band, and just about anything else you can think of. but only when i visit certain churches.

Weddingband is interesting. I was taught that the history of the wedding ring came from the Catholic Pope Innocent III in the thirteenth century. Kinda makes you wonder how Christians/Apostolics ever got by without wearing one for almost 12-13 centuries?

Many still wore rings and jewels of all sorts.
Bible is full of it. Why would God make them and tell us not to wear them?
He you all go, see these pretty stones here and this shiny stuff here? well I made it so that I could send you to hell for wearing it.
Yeah God, great thanks.
The wearing of anything that is beyond your means is stupid. The wearing of anything that symbolizes worship to a god other than the one true God is wrong. Other than that GO FOR IT.

Are you suggesting we take scriptures like the following...
1Ti 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
1Pe 3:3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
And make it of none effect?

If you use this verse, then you would have to say that you cannot wear apparel either. Be consistent. The whole thing is about balance and modesty.

I agree that 1 Peter 3 is comparing the outward adorning to the inward adorning.
1Pe 3:1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
1Pe 3:2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.
1Pe 3:3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
1Pe 3:4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
1Pe 3:5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:
1Pe 3:6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
However, this does not take away from the fact that Paul, inspired of God wrote the following...
1Ti 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
1 Peter 3 does NOT negate 1 Ti 2:9 and vice-versa. A woman can still adorn themselves with a meek and quiet spirit, in subjection to her disobedient husband, and win him by her conversation (lifestyle); and at the same time, adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array.
Being obedient to all the word is better and safer than relying on the wisdom of men.
