Do you play mostly by ear (like a true Apostolic! ) or do you play by note?

How long have you been playing? Do you play in church?
Play by numbers count?

Re: Piano Players Only Thread!!

It's incredible how many musicians are here, and there are several others that I know about who have not weighed in. I play a little keys, bass, and drums.
Say whatever about StMark, but he is sick on the organ. I already told him that I have to set up a workshop or something here in Houston with him.

Others who played his piano didn't like the way it played at all!
Yes Mohr, who is a professed Christian, traveled with Horowitz even to his last tour of Russia. I understand Horowitz's CD443 was unique...just like the great man himself.

It is true that St. Mark can WAX a Hammond organ! He's so polished that you have to wear sun glasses when he plays!

Our praise and worship leader at Christ Church, Regi Stone, moved to Nashville from New York. He attended the church where Franz Mohr attends and they are close personal friends.

We are in the process of having Franz come to Nashville to speak to the Nashville area piano technicians guild. If we work it out, Regi wants to have him give his testimony at Christ Church while he's in town!

Re: Piano Players Only Thread!!

I play piano.

I took lessons for about two years when I was about 7 years old but after I heard the melody I wouldn't stick to the music and would just play it "by ear". I wish I'd kept the music up now. I can read chord charts some and can "pick out" a simple song by note. I've had a little experience with the Nashville # system when in the studio. When I do weddings I usually always get the sheet music to get all the pretty chords but technically I play by ear.....and not great, but can get by. For many years I relied on my mom who played or someone in the church to play for me. I used to only like to play in C and F, but after some folks moved from our church I started playing for the church. My mom played organ. A lot of the congregational songs we sang were in Ab and I hated playing in that key. I would try to get mom to drop it to G but she wouldn't. She said if I could play in one key I could play in all, so (thanks to her) I did start playing in other keys. Some I still prefer over others. Having a transposer on a keyboard is the ONLY thing I like about a keyboard. I much more prefer an acoustical piano.

I do accompany myself when I sing most of the time and occasionally play in services but am not the "full-time" pianist. I have played organ on occasion and accordian.

My dad gave me on of his guitars before he passed but my few attempts to play have not been very successful! I have small hands and difficulty in making the chords.

For those of you who are interested in how pianos are made, here is a trailer of a new movie called, "Note by Note".
