For the record, I deal with this issue quite a bit where I work. We allow a $100 deposit to hold a piano until the husband/wife/teacher approves. Many times this is run on a debit card.
It's VERY EASY to issue a full refund on a debit card! It would have taken just a few minutes to issue a full refund, and then run the debit card again for the correct amount. After all, THEY are the ones who made the clerical error!
I would find out who the restaurant manager's boss is, and write a complaint!
