Look you can have your opinion. If you post it on here I have every right and in the case of my school the responsibility to check it out. Why don't you ask Daniel A. what was the first thing he did when I sent him the link to the Regent Alumni lookup. I will tell you and save you the time, he put in my name to see what came up. Did I have a problem with that? Absolutely not. The reason why is that I have stated on this forum that I went to law school there. Checking out what someone says is not a bad thing, and if one has held themselves out as something then giving proof of it is easy and no burden at all.

I disagree with you, simply because this is, for many people, myself included a place where anonymity is important. I have shared my identity with SOME people, most people probably only have a vague idea, and if I tell something personal about myself under an anonymous identity, then I should NOT be required to prove it to you by providing real information about myself. That is a violation of privacy.
Will I be asked to produce photos to prove I have three children? Or their birth certificates to prove they're really mine?
This is silly, if you ask me. You don't really NEED to know whether Dr. V is actually a doctor. You just WANT to know. Big difference.

He did not try to be anonymous. He claimed authority he did not have and in the process tarnished the reputation of Regent.

Awwwwwwwww! Poor poor Regent University. I'm sure the school will thank you for all your efforts.

Ok, Rico.... I have to knock you around a bit!
If indeed you lived in an area near a good church, and you attended there and someone started claiming false things about the church, you would probably feel that it was your responsibility to set them straight. And especially if this person was TELLING OTHER PEOPLE... It is about feeling a loyalty to the school. If someone came on here and started claiming things about my former church in Cali, I would feel the need to set them straight, same with the school I WORK at.
I encounter this all the time... The church we attend now used to have a different pastor, so the community has opinions about our church that are not correct, I correct them. We had a legal issue (it was NOT a moral issue, it was actually a HAIR issue) at the school I work at, the media got A LOT of stuff wrong, and I felt like I needed to tell as many people as I could the REAL story....

Difference here is he wasn't trying to hide who he was. He has posted his myspace link here with all his family photos, etc.
We would never ask someone to reveal WHO they are that hasn't already made that privy to the board.

what is the general methodology for definitively confirming gender when involved in an online forum?

Some folks show it in their avatar name (me), or you have to come out and ask in a post!
