Okay - I do NOT remember:

Funeral home fans...

Accordion players...

Chocola....

Popcorn popped over an open flame...

Little league baseball when the uniform was a pair of blue jeans and a T-shirt with the team sponsors name on it...

Grandma's hand-stitched quilt...

Galoshes...

The smell of an elementary school hallway...

Hand written report cards...

My first kiss...

Detassling corn and walking beans for spending money...

Push mowers without engines...

Black and white TV's with rabbit ears...

A tire swing in the back yard...

The swimming hole...

Grandma's homemade cherry pie...

Storm cellars...

Crank windows...

Reverend Ike on a late Sunday night...

Castor oil...

The first flakes of snow...

Red curved snow shovels...

Moonlight shimmering off of snowdrifts...

High top Converse tennis shoes...

The rest was soooo bee-u-ti-ful

And Yes!!!!! - I do remember what I had for dinner last night - almost burnt air-popped popcorn. I love almost burnt popcorn.

And I don't take Metamucel! The most effective way is to drink a large glass of water (2 cups) every 15 minutes for one hour.

I didn't originally respond to your post because the only thing I was wondering about was the swimming hole. I didn't know you were old enough to jump in leaving your clothes on the bank. After that I couldn't comment. I knew I was going to ask, so I logged out. I know that's how Brother Strange and his buddies used to swim.
You don't remember all those things?

I guess after you get so old you stop remembering those things and start forgetting them.

My grandma made cherry pies, but they weren't my favorite. They were ok. But she was really known far and wide for her pecan pies. One day I asked Grandma if she would make me a pecan pie. She told me "NO" but then she told me to get the bowl out and the ingredients out and she made me stand there and make that pie myself. To this day, I am the only one of her 67 grandkids who knows how to make pecan pie like Grandma did She gave me a great gift that afternoon.

I make snow ice cream every year with the first measurable snow. My daycare kids can hardly wait each year. The first day we have enough snow to cancel school, we declare that snow ice cream day.

Re: I Remember When...

Do you remember Clark Bars? Those were my favorite candy bar growing up.

I remember when going to McDonald's was a once-a-year treat.

And when going to a Detroit Tiger's Baseball Game was a big deal because you got to go to White Castle for Hamburgers.

I remember walking behind the wagon when they picked corn to pick up what fell to the ground.

And I also remember finding tons of Indian arrowheads in Grandma's fields.

We always had to hoe the gardens at Grandma's. She would tell us to take the weeds and throw them in the walkways and then we'd have to go back thru and rake them out when we were done with a row. Then we'd take those weeds and throw them over for the pigs. One year I decided it made a whole lot more sense if I just let the pigs out to eat the weeds as I was hoeing them. Too bad I didn't consider that weeds are not the ONLY thing that the pigs would eat. I thought my Grandma was gonna tan my hide good for that one!!

How about self-piercing earrings? That's how I pierced my ears. I borrowed a pair of them, put them on and then squeezed for all I was worth till they went all the way through. Hurt like the dickens!! But my ears were pierced when I was done. And since my dad had forbidden me to pierce my ears, that's all I cared. The job was done. Couldn't be undone

Margie, I remember Clark bars. I remember my first Reece cup and going to McDonald's for the first time.

I'd play my transistor radio in bed listening to the St. Louis Cardinals (and the Beatles) when I was supposed to be asleep.

We had a hamburger stand where we could get a dozen at a really low price.

Every year my maternal grandparents had a huge garden and I helped to "work it"...I helped with the canning and the freezing. We had enough to feed us all winter from the garden and from the pigs we killed about this time of year.

What fun all of that was. It was a different life...A different world.

Re: I Remember When...

I remember when:

Children said "Yes ma'am" or "No ma'am" or "Yes, sir" or "No, sir" to their parents, teachers or anyone older.

A child got a paddling at school, he or she got one at home.

Teachers read the Bible every morning even in a public school and then the students recited the Lord's prayer, along with the teacher.

The worst discipline problems in school were chewing gum, throwing spitballs, or putting chewing gum in someone's hair.

Cakewalks were the highlight of the fall season at school.

Summer seemed to last forever and recess seemed to pass in a blink.

How the new textbooks smelled and how it seemed impossible when looking at our workbooks to think we'd finish them in one school year.

Red Rover was a Scary thing because the big kids were going to try to break the chain where I was holding someone's hand.

I got a dollar for every A on my Report Card and money in my savings account at the end of the year when I passed.

I thought I would never be a teenager and I could never imagine losing my best friend - but now I'm old and I have no idea where my best friend from elementary school is now.

Blahahahahhahaa!

His name was Greg. He had red hair and could wiggle his ears. I was in love! Well, I was until my girlfriend was showing off, pushed me down and he saw my white eyelit ruffled underpants. I had to run into the bathroom and hide. I had to break up with him, I was so embarrassed. Oh, Elementary school where we played marbles at recess. If life could be so simple..........
