MOW has also spoken of the UPC "reputation" and I posted in several places that the reputation is not all inclusive of all UPC churches. UPC history is much darker than the whole today. Many here have also admitted it has been awhile since they have graced a UPC church and others have admitted to attending some undesirable ones as well as pleasantly different ones. By your post I am assuming that you have been hurt and angered by your experience with the UPC. On behalf of the rest of us who have done you no harm, I apologize. I do hope and pray that God will give you peace, closure and victory over the bitterness.

First of all let me state that I do not hate the UPC, I just don't belong to it anymore. I am very thankful that I was raised in a UPC church and taught the plan of salvation. My problem is with the by-laws and manuel. There are so many churches that no longer follow these rules and as someone mentioned earlier they weren't even aware of what was in the maneul. I believe it's time that they rewrite it and be honest about it. I grew up in a moderate UPC church and when I read some of the rules and restrictions talked about on here it blows my mind. The UPC in my area have always had TV's. I know some that even have home theaters. What does surprise is the fact that a lot of people in the UPC now days see nothing wrong with going to movie theaters even though the by-laws state the UPC does not believe in it and lists it as worldly entertainment.

I guess what I'm trying to say is there would have to be more honesty within the organization for me to rejoin. I'm 49 yrs old and grew up knowing of people with big names in the UPC (some of it heresay, some of it seen by my own eyes or one of my family members) who lied about having a TV, drank when out of town, wore make up, wore shorts etc. I'm a black and white person, I want to know what's right and what's wrong and have everybody follow the same rules. I don't think it's right that just because Bro. So & So's church contributes X amount of dollars we'll just look the other way while the women in his church cut their hair, wear makeup and earrings. Or it's ok that Pastor So & So had a big screen tv in his cabin because technically it wasn't in his home.

I just want black & white, right & wrong. But as my husband tells me...........there's always 11shades of gray. I know this doesn't apply to everyone, but I've seen too much of it over the years.
