Actually Amsterdam is my LEAST favorite place on earth so far. We went into the city once when we had a long layover, and I was totally CREEPED out spiritually. And I rarely ever have that feeling, but it was just a spiritual void, in my opinion.

I'm sure there are some good places to visit, but I couldn't get past the weird feeling. Now when we're stuck there, we just stay in the airport (which is like a city in itself).

People warned us of that when we went to Rome. We did not notice - too busy having fun my wife says. We even stayed in a monastery - converted to be a b&b, but complete with a current church and all. I went behind the confessional and had my wife share all the dirt she needed forgiveness of - it was shocking but her secrets are safe with me ....
