I'm not the incoherent behind a pulpit abusing authority by speaking on politics and belittling the president. What does the bible state about our government in regards to respect? Didn't the preacher plainly contradict scripture by belittling the president behind a pulpit?

You have no clue about me and now isn't the proper time to assume. I'm really not amused with internet gangsters who hide behind a screen name. Are you in California, I'll be more than happy to meet you.

EXCELLENT point, deadeye. It's the pot calling the kettle black. Two wrongs don't make a right, do they?

To answer the thread question--I don't believe that it's Christian to show overt disrespect for our leaders, EVEN when and if those leaders are evil.

Somehow Christians need to learn to participate in politics without participating in the vitriol. And leave politics at the door of the church.

The RIGHT thing to do is to pray for our leaders, and show respect to their position and authority--even when we disagree with them. It IS possible to disagree respectfully. There is no way I would allow any child in this household to call President Obama names or show him blatant disrespect, even though they know that we vehemently disagree with his policies and philosophies.

So, no...it's not a good example for a minister to call our President a moron. What is that teaching the children & young people within earshot about respecting authority, even when you don't agree? That kind of stuff comes back to bite people in the hind end.

And then to say how we needed to "pray for those in government" to do the right thing.
There's definitely a time and place to state strong opinions, and the church pulpit is NOT the place to state strong, political opinions. JMO!!!!

Oh, come on, 1Corinth. Maybe the pastor just let it slip--maybe he's just fed up with President Obama.

I'm sure you've NEVER called President Obama any mean names...or President Bush...or Sarah Palin...or...

Always the perfect example of carefully chosen words, are you?

Umm, I hate to point this out, but your screen name doesn't exactly give us your true identity either.

Was Hitler evil? What would have been the appropriate reaction to Hitler, if you were a German during that era? What if you were a Jew?

Corrie Ten Boom comes to mind....

Knowing someone is evil, and still acting like a Christian toward them, is the right way to handle politics.

Recognizing someone's character is not the same thing as calling them names, slang, obscene, disrespectful, or otherwise.

We discuss politics at the dinner table (sometimes), but we don't say things like, "What a moron", "What an idiot", "I hate him", "I hope he dies", etc. That's vitriol, and its unnecessary and unbecoming to a Christian. Can I point out to my children that some leaders have evil philosophies, and don't allow God to guide their decisions? Sure. But I also point out to them that we still have to respect our leaders, pray for them, and obey the laws of the land.
