I tip and tip well (usually)...but I still don't understand how the restaurant business managed to swing this sweet deal where they don't have to pay their employees like everybody else does. That is where the problem lies; with the notion that regardless of service I am forced to tip because in effect I am as responsible to pay your wages as your employer is.

I agree. I would rather tip a nurse that does things to service people than someone handing me a plate someone else cooked.

Just saying.....

Without reading the whole thread, does this mean KH isn't getting a "parting gift" or even a "tip?"

There is a lot more to being a waiter or waitress than just handing somebody a plate. Try it for a few services.

People are very demanding and waitresses at any restaurant that is very popular work their proverbial butts off.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

I can't imagine being the waiter at a dinner or restaurant when a big group of apostolics walk in for their weekly after church lunch/dinner, KNOWING I am about the work my butt off for next to no tip.

Which is why a lot of places now add the tip to the bill if you have 6 or more people.

My wife and I went out with another couple and the restaurant added the tip in, it ticked me off. I was planning on leaving a larger tip but since they added it in without telling me I figured he set his own limit.
