You questioned the reality of the concept, which is a Scripturally irrefutable one.
Steinway said that God has spoken to him.

That's a pretty lame way to refute the idea that God still talks to people.

I thing he was reaching for a more nuanced angle. He seemed to me to be questioning the ubiquitous manner that we find the phrase being used. He also seemed to be a bit cynical about church politics.

But he did affirm that God still talks to folks.

Thanks! I need you to be my press secretary!

Preachers using the phrase "God told me" is my pet peeve, especially when it comes to religious politics!

Ah, but the oratory of your last sentance proves that this is the place for you to spend some time!

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Personally, I'm very pleased with DB becoming Gen. Supt. of the UPCI. May God bless and guide him.
