This is not a business board. I want people who sincerely trust in Jesus and believe in the bible. I am not just talking about good people. It's what the bible speaks of as elders. I think board members are church elders. Diakonate. And the bible is clear about them.

1 Timothy 3:9 KJV Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.

Why not have a pastor who does not believe in the bible, then. (Oh,.... that does exist in mainline denominations. Sorry. )

BTW, got your card today! Thanks bro. Wonderful family!

That's a good point. It may depend on the purpose of the board in question. If the board is strictly and irrevocably limited to the business dealings of the church, then what do ya say?

Good point, too. But I still would want a sincere bible believer involved in that area as well. The bible says to not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. And I would want someone attending the church regularly, as well, and I might assume you would not be interested in faithfully hearing the bible preached, would you? I know of none who would be interested in regularly hearing things they did not believe in.

Oh but I do! Our church has many of them every Sunday and they are regular attenders. I'm pretty confident that Timmy would enjoy and regularly attend our Sunday gatherings.

Wonderful! That is awesome.

But again: a church position... What about being not unequally yoked together with unbelievers? The yoke is the work of the church.

I would hire Timmy to edit my forum posts with pertinent smilies, since I know of no one who uses them as perfectly as he does. lol

(On a side note, I appreciate your desire to reach out and save souls, but we cannot give them church positions to save them, which I think is your impetus here underneath it all).

While I would love to see Timmy return to faith, and I really do believe there's room in the Body of Christ for him even with all his doubts, I can honestly say, that's not my motive. Is there an element of it? Maybe so, but it's not the focus. And obviously, I'm saying this where Timmy can see it. And I think Timmy knows I'd love to see him nudge open the door and consider faith again. But I love him and accept him for who he is.

You aren't alone there.

This is one of those areas where we have all come from differing backgrounds and experiences, and even all perceive church "boards" differently. To properly answer the question, I would need to review a copy of the bylaws of the specific church, determine exactly what the purpose and duties of the board were, and discover their place and position in that particular church. I would also need to know how prominently the board figured into each service, if at all.

I am speaking of the Board of Directors, in essence, a business board that oversees financial distributions and administrative structure.
