My wife fixed ours, once. Wouldn't spin or agitate. I took the cover off and looked around. Couldn't see the problem, so was about to give up and call a repair man (or buy a new one, I forget which). Wife reaches in and pulls out a sock that was jammed between the tub and something.

There's a country song in this. "I was about to throw in the towel, when she pulled out a sock"!

I'll have to talk him into it, the tightwad that he is. I'm finding out it is not the timer, which is expensive. He'll probably look at it closer when he gets home this evening.
