I think the whole point of the scripture about not being adorned with gold pearls and costly array, is really saying "Be adorned with GOOD WORKS". Let your outward appearance, or what people see... let it be your good works.

That said, it does say:

1Ti 2:9-10
not with ... gold, or pearls, or costly array.
But .... with good works.

So, someone who says I do not wear jewelry because it says so in the bible are also right. I do not think they are trying to be holier than God. They are trying to please him.

I love holiness, but I don't want it to come from doctrines of man. And more so, I don't want to demand my liberties at the expense of condemning and offending my brother.
FUNNY how in MY life, I never DID like either makeup or jewelry I did not grow up wearing either..well I did
sometimes wear what I had to for "office" appearance sake, but as a rule, I rarely wore anything other than
the least of what I had to, lfor any given occasion.

I now look back and realize that GOD had me picked out long before I could realize what was ahead.
It was EASY for me, coming to Pentecost., I didn't have to give up much, in other words., EXCEPT for
SELF, which again, wasn't difficult for me, I had done a lousy job running my own life, I was glad to give
it over to HIM.
I thank HIM for everything, and love HIM all the more.
What I do today, and don't do, centers around my LOVE for HIM.
He did no less, for me.

yes, no matter how hard we try.

So jewelry or no jewelry-- as long as what you are or are not saying, doing, and wearing does not take away from the Glory of God being revealed in your life.

Here's a question though. Biblically, is there a precedent or even mandate for us to "protect" our salvation with words and actions in addition to what Christ completed for us?

i would say that the mandate after forgiveness and application of his blood, is to do our best to obey him and live for him, dat is what i tink

Re: I am Holier than God ...

I guess then we shouldn't wince, flinch or correct the practice of mortification of the flesh ... as there is "bible" for it ...

It is the obvious Christian response for the wooden literalism of "putting the flesh to death" ....

Self-flagellation, guys?

Exodus 33:22 which Moses hid in to protect him from the glory and holiness of God when He walked by Moses. Moses hid in the cleft of that rock which is a split or hollow place. It was a hiding place, a place of protection because of the near presence of God...not one of us could ever match the HOLINESS of God and nothing we do can clease us without His Help...
If we ever come in contact with te REAL HOLINESS of God our lives will be orever changed...

My life was drastically changed., I do indeed
know what true holiness is., for it is not something unavailable
for "saints" , but not too many will even claim
what is truly theirs, though., for fear of judgment by
others whom, sadly..don't know any better. I am glad that
I have never been afraid of anyone/anything,
GOD is for ME;
whom can be against me?
This has been - My

Re: I am Holier than God ...

I am not holier than God

but

I am as holy as God

because

Jesus Christ lives in me as the Holy Spirit

and

Jesus is

YHWH-m’kaddesh (m-keh-desh) or YHWH my Sanctification or YHWH that sanctifies me

He is my sanctification/holiness

ref Leviticus 20:7-8; 1 Corinthians 1:30

When God looks at me, He sees His holiness
