Praying The Weather Man Is Right

Today in the Nashville area we have an 80% chance of severe thunderstorms all day long but tomorrow it is showing sunny/partly cloudy and a high of 76 degrees.

Our church and five other churches are doing service work in the community instead of our regular service tomorrow and we really need it to not rain!!!!

Hundreds of people from these churches will be heading out to six different places, mostly schools and a nurshing home, to paint, plant shrubs, wash windows & cars, and a lot of other things these places need done but don't have the money in their budget to do. Most of these schools serve low income students or students in trouble like unwed young mothers or students for whom this school is a last chance as they have been kicked out of others.

The pinrcipals of these schools already are so excited about what we are doing as they feel like they are often times overlooked by the community.

We will descend on these places and work for several hours then all of the churches are meeting at a park for a picnic afterwards.

My job is to somehow drive to all six locations in about a 2 hour timeframe and videotape a few minutes at each of the activity going on. I think my GPS is going to get a workout!

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Well, the bad weather has finally left our area and is probably headed your way. I bet they're right!

Zac is supposed to leave M'boro and head this way about 7 pm tonight, so I hope it's all over by then!

Well, I think that's awesome what your church(es) is doing!! What a great idea.

Sentenced to community service, eh?

J/K, that's awesome, CC1. That's what church should be about: serving people. (No, not in the Twilight Zone sense. )

Oh, and about that prayer, just a little advice: make sure you ask according to God's will, and it will work, for sure!

I wish MORE churches would do things like this. What a great thing for them to do!

We may still be under that tornado watch I am not sure but it has been pretty quiet so far. I need to turn on the tv..er.... monitor for any UPC folks reading and see what they are saying.

It's supposed to be hitting downtown Nashville right about now. 60 mph winds, but it may go north of M'boro. So far Zac is still at home, waiting until it calms down a little before he leaves for Jackson.

Re: Praying The Weather Man Is Right

Timmy, your point about prayer is well taken and actually I do try to pray that way. Don't want to box God in!

Tina, I think once or twice a year this is a good thing to do. The idea is to let people know that Christians do more than go to church and talk a good talk. We want to actually be a blessing to the community. Should be interesting!

We did this the last two years CC1, it is good to get ourselves thinking about helping in our community.

Just saw on TV that the storm is supposed to hit Murfreesboro at 8:33 pm.
