It seems to have been something locked within the psyche of Fundamentalism in general. With all of the Baptist preaching about "holding the line" against the many societal changes that took place during the early part of the 20th Century - AND given the fact that OP's approach their theology and preaching in a manner that mirrors the Baptists - it just seems like the idea of freezing ourselves in time with a "Victorian fashion look" was probably the easiest way to go.

The advent of trousers on men was really an innovation of the barbarian invasions of the old Roman Empire. The barbarians had always sported the bifurcated garment while the Roman men all wore those cute skirts that made the gladiator movies so popular among a certain subset of Hollywood.

Old Naughtiest Maximus was quite popular among the women, and men, of his day. Oh wait, I think "Naughtiest Maximus" is actually a joke name..... Like Silliest Sores or Biggus........
