If you really knew me, you would know that I am NOT racist, NOT prejudiced against anyone of any color. But I get tired of people (ANY race) constantly blaming things on race and color ! Personally, I think Martin Luther King would be appalled at the way the race card is used.

JMHO - I'm out of here! Love you, MM!

Then tell us....have you been called the racial epitaphs that MM has been? You say I don't know you. Sounds like you may know MM, but do you realky know him well enough to tag him a "Racists"? It seems you labeled him with that based solely on what he said here. I don't think that's fair. At all. MM is NOT a racists based on what he wrote here. Not even close.

Yes, I know MM. No, I have not been called all the names he mentioned, but I have been discriminated against for other reasons. I would have never thought of him as "racist" before (although I know him well enough to know that sometimes it seemed that he had a chip on his shoulder regarding some things.) Ok, so, I will retract my "racist" remark, but I still think that he is making some pretty broadbrush remarks and is somewhat prejudicial in this thinking.

Thank you.

He's passionate about what he believes. That's ok. And it's ok for someone to disagree. Maybe his conclusions are right and maybe not. But he does ask some good questions.

Mr. Smith, why is it racist for me to determine how a group of minorities in SE DC are going to act based on their race and location, but it is not racist for a minority to label an entire society as racist based on the acts of a few? Both are judging an entire race of people based on how some have acted.

Why are attitudes of minorities excused because they have been called names but the white guy that has been jumped by a minority group should never have a bad word to say about a group of minorities walking down the sidewalk towards him?

Does racism exist? Yes.

Are minorities discriminated against? Yes.

I am discriminated against often and where I live I am the minority.

Response: I don't think it is possible to determine how someone is going to act based on their race. I think there may be increased possibilities, but not absolutes.

Second, the bolded part, I don't think it's a few and therein lies a large part of the problem. It is impossible for me to definitively do an exhaustive research on this issue (percentage of racist, white America), and I believe, impossible for anyone to because very few would admit to it, but I have two resources for believing it's still a HUGE problem, not just a small problem of a few: 1) What I hear myself from casual conversation; and 2) The stories I hear from balanced, well-rounded people who fall into a so-called "Minority" class.

Why are attitudes of minorities excused because they have been called names but the white guy that has been jumped by a minority group should never have a bad word to say about a group of minorities walking down the sidewalk towards him?

Response: I'm not personally excusing it but I am trying to understand it. I don't believe racism is justified on either side, but until I have experienced the brunt of being slighted repeatedly, refused positions, called names, and disenfranchised by establishments and people in power, strictly because of my race, I don't feel like I'm in the position to fully understand.

Question: The "White guy" who was "Jumped" by the "minorities"....was he jumped by them strictly because he was white or because they wanted to jump someone? I think there's a difference.

Does racism exist? Yes.

Response: I believe it more than just "Exists." It's still prevalent. It's much more frowned upon and no longer out in the open as it was, but hearts didn't suddenly change in the last 40 years.

Are minorities discriminated against? Yes.

I am discriminated against often and where I live I am the minority.

I don't doubt it. But have you been denied a job, a career, an education, advancement, or opportunity, because of your race?

I absolutely have been denied jobs and opportunities for being white. I am not eligible for scholarships that are only available to minorities yet every scholarship I could apply for so could they.

Fair enough. But were those avenues your only chance? For many minorities, it's the only chance they have.

One can make a decent case for some kind of affirmative action in the educational system. Unfortunately, a majority of inner-city schools, which houses the vast majority of minorities, teach at such a low level that even a person who aces the inner-city school system has never been given the tools to pass qualification standards set by many universities.

Not to change the subject but thanks for the great argument in favor of universal vouchers.

Oh, you would get no argument from me on that one!! The public school system is a joke and I'm not talking about the removal of prayer, the distribution of condoms, or the teaching of evolution. While many suburban schools are high-quality, many that are located in urban areas or tinytown, America, are absolutely horrific, academically.

The area where I bought my first home was in a minority area.It was the only place in the city where you could get a home that didn't have a clause in the contract that forbade them to sell to blacks or somrthing to that effect.Even Japanese Americans were allocated to this area.
