Re: Legislating Internet Porn

Since I'm conservative and supportive of the Limited Role of government, I'm not supportive of Government Nanny Acts, Big Brother or any other empowering of the government to assume that role in the lives of its constituents.

There's an "opt out" called software, a power plug and choice.

Re: Legislating Internet Porn

I used to have "Tunnel Vision" about Internet Porn. I thought it was the all out EVIL in the online world. But today I'm not so sure. Yes, Porn is wicked, addicting, and can destroy peoples’ lives. To be honest, I wish that Internet Porn did not exist.

But what about Gambling? What about Internet Chatting and finding those old "Flames"? What about the Video Game community? What about access to information that can help a criminal do ANY crime they so desire?

There are so many different areas of the Internet that are destructive, and it's quite possible the focus on Porn is the "Smoke and Mirrors" to help open a door that couldn't be otherwise opened. With the recent problems of sensitive Government information being released via the Internet, in using Porn as the "Trojan Horse", we just might not see what is inside this kind of control as we're too busy looking at this ONE THING!

China has control in this area, and this Nation is diabolical towards its People in liberty and human rights. On the surface it can look good, but the end result could devastate our Freedom and ability to know the Truth.

The Internet has done something which has threatened all great powers of the past, present, and future; given people Knowledge. The more we know, the less we can be deceived. The less we know, the more we WILL be deceived! The Internet has become a threat to Government and Religion, the 2 greatest powers on planet Earth, and history reveals that when these powers become cornered they will do whatever it takes to silence those who may be a potential menace.

Don’t get me wrong, Internet Porn boils in evil. It is a power that can take down the best. But we do have laws already in place to help find and convict the criminals who may be divulging in this evil. We also have plenty of filters and Internet tracking devices that can help keep people accountable.

Re: Legislating Internet Porn

I have the same concerns as some others concerning what might BECOME when the government gets power...

Here is the deal though... I think this is a great feature. It need not be the government implementing it. If my local internet service provider had this as an option, I would want it!

I want to see this done on the private level with the free market running it - not a mandated government/bureaucratic power grab.

I don't think this is about whether or not it's "more evil" than other things that can cause addictions on the internet, it's about an option you could choose to be sure that children in your house can't access it. That's where my thoughts from this came anyway...

Indeed. I am not a fan of any government involvement in the internet except things that are already criminal activities such as fraud, child porn, etc.

I don't know a kid from my generation that wasn't exposed to pornography growing up and we had no internet.

I am not saying that it is good for them to be exposed but kids we exposed to it before the internet so I am suspicious of any argument that says, "Do it for the children."
