It's said by Jesus himself speaking of Judas' betrayal to Pontius Pilate who also plays a role in Jesus death:

Socialite care to engage this verse in light of what has been said thus far?

I would think a great emphasis needs to be placed on understanding the word "greater" here. I have to admit there is a sense of "degrees" here. Although, I view this in light of
James 2:10: “For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all."
Here is where "degrees" are involved ---
The degree of one’s guilt is relative to the degree of one’s knowledge of truth.
John 19, Matt. 10:16; 11:21-24
The degree of one’s guilt is relative to the degree of one’s intention involved in the sin.
There is an unpardonable sin. (
Mark 3:28-29)
That these sins will bring greater punishment, or even judgement, does not mean the person is cast away from the grace of God more than someone else "with just a little sin." We are ALL dead in sin, but alive in Jesus and we have the assurance that "nothing can separate us from the love of God" (
Romans 8:38-39).
So, while it sounds like I'm backing up on my statement that there are no degrees of sin, I am only to a degree (pun intended)

. All sins are mortal deserving of wrath, and it's a foolish thing for the dead to compare each other's death in boastful ways.
