Re: Bro. Murrell Ewing'a Homegoing Service Streami

Okay, now I've really been done in. I thought it was earlier, but no...it's now.

Beautiful.

Does anybody know the seating capacity of Eastwood? I didn't realize they had a church this big. Of course the last time I was there was probably in the early 80's or late 70's and it was a completely different address and building.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Yup. You could tell when he was speaking and singing that his voice is close enough to his dad's that he can probably do a great impersonation.

All of the UPC blue bloods from my youth are dying off. Bro. Urshan, GA Mangun, and now Murrell Ewing.

Re: Bro. Murrell Ewing'a Homegoing Service Streami

Alex church being my home church in my early years, Murrell was the asst. to G.A.. He was so slow with his speech it drove G.A. Nuts.

Once as Murrell was make the announcements and giving the prayer request he tried reading a note for a prayer request. Of course, you would have to see G.A.'s penmanship. Absolutely no one could read it. So Murrell stumbled, very haltingly trying to read the prayer request written by G.A.

He said, "Let us remember Fred...no Flo...ah...Freul Casis...... Just about that time G.A. had enough he jumped up and ran over to the mike and said: FLU CASES!!!! FLU CASES!!!!!! FLU CASES!!!!!!

G.A. always like to the services snap along at a good pace. He would not put up with anyone going to the pulpit and drag around very much.

Re: Bro. Murrell Ewing'a Homegoing Service Streami

Sounds like a great man. I never knew him or heard him sing beyond a few minutes but appreciate all the kind words directed at him. I especially like all the comments about him being humble.
