Sisters Prison Release For Kidney Transplant
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110107/...eleased_kidney
PEARL, Miss. – Two sisters whose life sentences were suspended on the condition that one donate a kidney to the other were released from a Mississippi prison on Friday after serving 16 years for an armed robbery.
I have heard of Governor's pardoning criminals, or staying execution. Can someone explain to me how that is legal? I can understand Judge's overruling, but how do Governor's have that power?
In this case the sentences were suspended. And there was a condition of their release.

Re: Sisters Prison Release For Kidney Transplant
I was just reading about that actually, totally blows my mind!
It's interesting that their robbery resulted in them stealing $11. lol They were hitting people over the head with shotguns, and got $11 out of it.

Yeah, and received life sentences. Actually in the article it is explained that the actual amount was higher, but the way the law read at minimum $10 or something like that.

I see. I didn't read your article because I'd just read a different one.
I don't know enough about the case to have an opinion either way, I just happened to be reading this article right before you posted.

Re: Sisters Prison Release For Kidney Transplant
One of the victims in the case testified that he was robbed of about $200. A 14-year-old boy involved in the crime testified that his cut was between $9 and $11. Lumumba, the sisters' attorney, has said the $11 amount trumpeted by advocacy groups is based on the indictment, which says they stole "in excess of $10."
