I would agree. And I often see that those who question it are then labeled "Rebellious" or that they are just looking for a reason to do what they want. But that's not it at all.

And another thought - when you have a new convert, and you push all of the standard UPC teachings as foundational to salvation (as it was taught to me) and then when that person studies for themself, and there is no scriptural backing..... it makes them question EVERYTHING that was taught to them, including the truly salvational teachings themselves. It causes confusion.

The whole idea of us needing to change a person is just not kosher. GOD changes people through His Spirit. If we lead them to a saving knowledge of God and teach them the Word of God, then the things that God wants to have changed will change when God and the person are ready. Anything else just doesn't work. How many times have we seen people conform to "standards" only to find that the inner man has still remained unconverted?

Really. If Aquila keeps up this critical attitude he'll soon be worshiping Dagon and wearing a red cardinal's robe while gesticulating rituals for the benefit of D'Inana.

Leave the UPC and the only road you'll find goes straight to Rome and the Whore of Babylon. Better to stay in the Mothership and reap the rewards of obedience than to try and think for yourself.

Or, is the whole matter a bit more complex than that?
