Sacred Scarecrows
I was thinking tonight about this topic. There are things in our faith that are scarecrows of sorts. They are things that we set up with the intent of scaring the fouls away, but they are showy, at best. Many of these are nothing more than stuffed clothing sitting on a pole for looks and really serve little purpose. I am guilty of it too at times. But why do we do it? Is it to keep the status quo? Is it because if we don't we won't feel complete?
I am evaluating my life and beginning to eliminate those sacred scarcrows. I had a friend tell me once that he thinks God put me here to "tip over spiritually sacred cows." I laughed at him. I know there are some on this forum that are those people that "tip the cows" spiritually. I want to be one of those that do that. I don't want to sit by and let what other people tell me I should do, look like, feel like and erect sacred scarecrows. What do you think about this? Any ideas, pointers advice from your life that we could all use as a workable plan? Please share.

Just a warning. You will have the villagers circle your farm with pitchforks and fire torches.

Nothing wrong with exposing error, but in he zeal to "cow tip" the sacred cows of religion, rememeber Paul's admonition not to destroy the faith of the weak because you feel yourself to be strong. Romans 14 & 15
I'm not saying just to sit down and shut up, just saying pick your battles well, and truly consider the feelings of other before drawing a line.
If you JT push your liberty on them, you are no better than they who push bondage on you.

Ah yes!! Reminds me of the peasants with pitchforks in P J Buchanan's campaign for president!
We had fun. They never knew what hit them! Our guys came into the local
caucus and ate all the "free donuts" before the meeting was called to order...

I think for those that saw it they would all say just about the same thing.

Definitely something worth exploring for yourself, but I would also caution on how you present it. Very wise words from Jason. You can challenge the religious system. But as much as "they" can be haughty with their view you can do the same by trying to counteract it.
