The Role of Faith in Salvation
Why is it easy for Apostolics to have faith that God can heal, but nearly impossible for them to have faith that only Jesus saves?
It's as if they trust Him for healing, but doubt His ability to save.
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast." Eph 2:8-9

Re: The Role of Faith in Salvation
Love that verse, Char.
I know, some of the 3-step stalwarts on here would say that the steps aren't works, or even 'of yourself' but are done in faith, which "effects" (they love that word) salvation.
It's nicer knowing for some that we have a part in our saving -- outside of just accepting and believing.

Re: The Role of Faith in Salvation
I have never met a spirit filled believer who says Jesus did not save them . How laughable.

Sure, it'd never be stated so obvious

An interesting and vital observation.

Can Jesus keep you saved? The question involves Jesus, now, not yourself.

If works can save, there is no need for a Jesus.

Re: The Role of Faith in Salvation
You Protestant/Evangelical believers fulfill the Apostles warning:
4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
Go and knock down another straw man.

That scripture can be used against anyone someone agrees with.
In reality, CONTEXT may be helpful (second person to prooftext this verse in the last 15 min)
Quote:
The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2 Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3 They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 4 For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5 because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.
6 If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters,[a] you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. 7 Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. 8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 9 This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance. 10 That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe.
|
Who are those people again?
Not so apocryphal after all, and the irony of who they are couldn't be more glaring.
