For a family in America consisting of a mom a dad a teenage son and a teenage daughter the necessities would include:
a 3 bedroom house (state laws pretty much requires there to be a bedroom per kid when dealing with kids over a certain age).
Other than that they would need water, electricity, a vehicle, food and clothing.
Does this pretty much cover all the necessities?
EDIT: I forgot one necessity: a telephone for emergency services.
