Re: Wedding rings
speaking of wedding rings......
My wife and I got married February 28, 1958.
I was 20. She was 16.
Her grandfather married us. He was a preacher with the Church of Jesus Christ.
We were married in her grandmother's living room or parlor. The room was only used on "special occasions." I think that was the only time I was ever in that room.
Pat's grandfather was old and almost blind. He had hand written out the words he was going to use for the ceremony. He had used a marker with black ink and written it out in large letters on 8 1/2 by 11 note book paper. Instead of standing at one end of the room we had to stand off to the side under a lamp because the light was better and he could see better over there.
We both had rings. Pat told him she wanted a double ring ceremony. He said he didn't have time for that but we could put them on afterward. He was scheduled to preach somewhere that night so after the brief ceremony, Pat's Dad took him to a storefront church and let him out of the car so he could preach. Then he took us to a local hotel and let us out so we could go in and spend a two night honeymoon. We didn't have a car. The hotel was in down town Cincinnati and not the nicest place to stay and some of the people in the lobby looked kinda scary.
We're still together after all these years with 5 kids, 13 grandkids, and 1 great grand child.
Several years ago I stopped wearing my wedding ring because I thought it might offend someone. The only person offended was my wife because I would not wear my wedding ring. A few weeks later I started wearing it again and I don't know if anyone even noticed when I quit wearing it or when I started wearing it again.

Re: Wedding rings
Regarding having kids and folks thinking your unmarried, my wife hasn't had problems with it, that I know of.
If a married sister kids dressed modest with no makeup/jewelry, will not people just think no weddingf band is just part of her appearance? mostwill realize she doesn't wear jewelry, that she is one of them "holiness" people.

Sam, you both look like you were made for each other. And, I really dig your wife's geek glasses.

Hey, that's what glasses looked like back in the middle of the past century.

Yeah, but were you acting married?
Serioous, when you say it didn't work, how did it not work?

I have people approach me all time - even "church people" - who I haven't seen for a while. They lift up my left hand and comment on the absence of a wedding band. People actually take hold of my hand and lift it up for inspection!
This is then followed by some inane noise that I suppose is intended to be soothing and comforting. Dudettes! Let go of my hand. If I were trolling for dates then I'd wear a leisure suit, a hair piece and gold "disco" chains.
As far as girls go - I didn't buy my wife a ring because her dad had frowned so seriously on the idea. He even stated that he would refuse to do a wedding ceremony that involved a ring in any way. About a week or two after we were married my wife was digging around and found my grandmother's wedding band and claimed it for herself. She said she was tired of all the "hassles" at work and other places. Nice. I felt like a worm.

The story I told previously - I was pregnant, nurse was filling out my form, glanced at my hand and said - "You live with your parents?"
My long hair, long skirt, long sleeves... none of that made her think it was normal that I wasn't wearing a ring. She just thought I wasn't married.

But what a witness for the wonderful holiness message!
Forget the real fruits, like loving your jerk of a neighbor. All you have to do is avoid the wedding ring and other jewelry (and makeup), and keep the hair uncut and they WILL know you as an apostolic! Note: I didn't say "christian" because that is trinitarian.

Ah, I've been told that. It didn't explain "house rules" nearly well enough, though.
