Well, after looking I cant seem to find it but maybe we do need to pencil it into our bibles so that we can remember to ostracize and cast out all who dare to go against about 80 or 90 SOLID years of "Holiness" tradition!!!

Some of you are so screwed up by your UPC past. I want to feel empathy for you, but I won't.

They went over the top, if this article is telling the whole truth, but I do not think she should have been allowed to continue in that sin without at least her and her parents being told about the beliefs of the school.

I see a missed opportunity, especially since the media got involved. Sister Alvear made some good points by bringing scriptures to the conversation (should we allow sin to dwell with the righteous and let leven consume). And after the above mentioned post by "UnTraditional" I can see where the expulsion was somewhat hasty even though the girl most likely understood the conservative ways of the school. This whole bit should've been handled differently I think.

Re: UPC Church School Expels Girl Who "Kissed a Gi
I haven't read the entire thread so forgive me if this was already addressed.
Why expell her?
These are young people. They mess up. Why not have a manditory parent/teachers meeting with the parents invovled, address the issue, and use it as a teaching moment? Kids get courious and make mistakes. Now...if it's a lifestyle of unrepented sin that is being flaunted among the student body... yes... suspend her.
I wouldn't want to think that a Christian school would just expell a young person to the over a single act of couriosity or sin. I've seen pregnant teens attend Christian schools. Kids make mistakes and sometimes mess up big time.... but why throw them to the wolves?

Congrats, girl. Yet another reason why I don't participate on Facebook. Blech!

I agree with everything you said except your anti-Facebook comment. Your lack of participation on Facebook should have nothing to do with how you feel about the girl revealing her sexuality or sexual encounter, IMO. The article only inserted it to let the reader know how she went about revealing what the girl did. To say what you said about Facebook, you might as well say the same thing about texting if texting were her choice to reveal it; she could have easily sent it out to multiple people that way as well. If that were the case, would you have responded about texting in the same manner? Just curious, not trying to come across critical/sarcastic by any means...

Re: UPC Church School Expels Girl Who "Kissed a Gi
I think you "slanderers" seem to forget that the situation was also settled previously by a NON UPC CHURCH regarding expelling a "gay teen" from a Conservative School. I was a Methodist Church School here in California that brought it before the California Supreme Court and found with in legal standing.
It had nothing to do with her life style, manner of dress, or personal decision to be gay. It was straight up about rebellion against a teacher to removed a status from her FB account, and to quit flaunting her sinful life choices before the other students.
So before you pick up the pitch fork and start bashing the UPC, you might want to check your own spirit. OH YE REBELLIONS ONES. You might just want to convert to Wiccan.
1 Samuel 15:23 - "For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and presumption is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you"

I tend to agree, but we really don't know whether this was an ongoing issue with this being the final straw do we?

I don't think that short news item is giving the full story. It's amazing that some Christians are so quick to jump on other Christians without knowing all the facts.

Ya, the original story seems to read almost like a Letter to the Editor for all the facts (or lack thereof) and insinuations in it.
