In your opinion what were some of the customs and cultures of the NEW TESTAMENT time that Paul and other dealt with that has no bidding effects on the church today?

The fact that Paul said the women should keep silence in the church and that if they have questions they need to ask their husbands for the answers.

footwashing and greeting with a kiss can also fall into the same category.

This is found in 1 Corinthians 14:34-40
Did Paul actually say that?
Or was he quoting back to them something they had said to him in a letter and something they were using and quoting at church to try and silence women?
This was supposed to be a "scripture" but it is found nowhere in our Old Tesatmant --actually there were women leaders and prophets in the OT. And Paul had women ministers on his team who ministered with him.
After Paul quoted this "scripture" about women he said "What?" Then he asked them, "did the Word of God come from you to me or from me to you?" And then reminded them that what he was preaching/teaching were the commandments of the Lord. Then he went on and said, "covet to prophesy and forbid not to speak with tongues" or "never say it is wrong to speak in tongues" as the NLT says it.

They had quoted oral law or tradition to Paul about women not speaking in the assembly and Paul refuted it.

These are couple of other quotes that can be found in old Jewish oral law or tradition:
"A woman cannot come forward to read and whoever teaches his daughter the Torah is like one who teaches her obscenity"
and
"Rather should the words of the Torah be burned than entrusted to a woman"

that's an interesting interpretation. i understand that those verses in chapter 14 do not appear in some greek manuscripts.

I think many things related to the custom and culture of that day..Christ is adaptable to all customs and cultures..Sometimes American missionaries make the mistake of trying to made the people on the mission field Americans....often forgetting that they are the stanger...

I agree with you there. Just as many pastors in the states try to make everyone look alike in their churches. I am thankful GOD likes some diversity, color, and uniqueness in HIS kingdom.
