Re: 24% of UPC missions money goes to overhead?

Lots of good ones:

Apostolic Contender Newsletter

America's Apostolic Newspaper (Bud Tingle)

And what about the one in Oklahoma? There used to be some hardcore vitriol newsprint coming from there somewhere.

Re: 24% of UPC missions money goes to overhead?

I don't know what the overhead percentage is for FM for the UPCI. I trust and pray it is not 24% but I am sure it is a significant amount as there are a lot of legitimate support expenses involved.

It is naive or worse to characterize the FM departments legitimate expenditures to be simply "someone answering the phone".

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

I understand there is overhead, but how can any organization defend 24% for over head.
Can anyone explain to me how keeping 25% of mission funds helps missions?
I heard that they actually keep more than 100% of the missionary offerings. And that they use that money to buy Ferrari's for all of the big wigs. The GS, DKB, wears custom tailored suits and that HQ flies in tailors and seamstresses from Italy to do all of his fittings.

Foreign Missionaries are then forced to serve pancake breakfasts and spaghetti dinners in small church kitchens to raise funds to pay for their burro travels through the jungles where they again have to sell peanut brittle to brute natives to raise the funds to get back home where HAZALWOOD sends them right out on deputations to pay for the swanky office furniture and bear skin rugs at HQ.

Re: 24% of UPC missions money goes to overhead?

maybe some REAL UPCI missionary could tell us the amount...would save a lot of guessing...however if I were going to support any missionary I would want most of what I sent to get to the missionary but at te same time I understand there are operating costs involved.

Re: 24% of UPC missions money goes to overhead?

Well, don't forget in that cumulative number there may be things that help the missionaries.

If I remember right they get a 403b (similar to a 401k) so they don't have to retire in abject poverty like some of the older missionary widows like Sister Morley and others. They also have international life insurance policy, a emergency fund. I am sure there is plenty of flat in this age of Skype, VoIP, and what not. But you have to itemize things.

I personally wouldn't send a single one of them to this forum. It would benefit only a few. The remainder have already dropped their gavel when it comes to missions and/or the UPCI.
