Re: The "dress code" is essential...
Ok, so we have a couple of answers so far.
1. raised that way
2. insecure husbands who don't trust their wives
Any others?

Are you saying husbands that want their wives to dress decent and modest have trust issues?

Sorry to jump in here...
Not to say this is a quote from my wife but I think I know her well enough to answer as she would (if this question was asked her).
She believes Corinthians instructs "long hair" for women, and God should decide the actual length - which is different for different people.
Modesty is instructed by Peter and Paul and is a basic Christian tenant. For ladies in our culture, wearing proper length skirts and no low necklines is a good rule of thumb to dress by. The key being not to draw unnecessary attention to the body and trying to present the hidden man of the heart rather than an external facade.

Uh... no. I am sorry if it sounded like that. My wife does not post here.
I find the question intriguing and find there are many answers depending on perspective and past experience.
A few others had given their thoughts to the question and I thought I would add to that. I am not in complete agreement but I think that is how my wife would answer. I very much appreciate her zeal and desire to live pleasing unto the Lord.
