The Ark of God and Dagon's hands and head

Here's some wonderful WORD about the glory of the work of the cross of Jesus in our lives.

In 1 Sam 5, when reading of the ark of the covenant's capture by the Philistines, there is a wonderful parallel to the Gospel account of Jesus' cross. Dagon was an idol in the shape of a FISH with a HUMAN HEAD and HUMAN HANDS. When the ark was positioned in its temple by the Philistines, the second day saw the idol turned and made to bow down before the ark as in worship by the power of God. The third day saw it turned and bowed once again, but this time with its head and hands broken off.

The Young's Literal Translation actually words it like this, showing us the picture in vivid reality.
1 Samuel 5:4 YLT And they rise early in the morning on the morrow, and lo, Dagon is fallen on its face to the earth, before the ark of Jehovah, and the head of Dagon, and the two palms of its hands are cut off at the threshold, only the fishy part hath been left to him;
Think of the devil as Dagon, and the human head and hands as OUR HEADS (minds) and HANDS (actions), that need to be broken off the devil so he cannot use them any more. And think of how this was done on the third day the Ark was in Dagon's temple, while Jesus was three days in the grave when he resurrected!

Re: The Ark of God and Dagon's hands and head

Before this occurred, news came to Eli in 1 Sam 4 of the capture of the Ark. A man from the tribe of BENJAMIN came telling him the news. He told Elli that the Ark was taken, and Eli's two sons, Phinehas and Hophni, were slain in battle.

In thinking of the human HEAD AND HANDS on Dagon, it is remarkable that PHINEHAS and HOPHNI'S names mean respectively, FIST FIGHTER and MOUTH OF THE SERPENT. Fists are made with hands, and mouths are on our heads!

Re: The Ark of God and Dagon's hands and head

The ARK was called the GLORY OF GOD when Phinehas' wife learned of her husband's death, and gave birth before to a child her own death that day, naming him ICHABOD, the GLORY HAS DEPARTED. Because the ARK was taken, she said the GLORY was taken. This is interesting because Jesus is the Word made flesh, allowing us to BEHOLD GOD'S "GLORY" in this incarnation of Jesus Christ.

The man of Benjamin who reported this information to Eli is a foreshadow of PAUL THE APOSTLE (who was of the tribe of Benjamin -Phil 3:5) who taught much of the TAKING OF JESUS IN DEATH, especially in Romans 6. There, Paul taught JESUS DIED so that OUR OLD MAN might be crucified, and the body of sin destroyed so that we should no longer serve sin.

We SERVE SIN with our MINDS and our HANDS, as though the devil uses them, as Dagon had a human head and hands. The devil puts thoughts in our minds and we carry them out. And we sin. Jesus died to stop this, and not just to save us from hellfire. When Paul taught this information in Romans 6, we are intended to LEARN from it and ignite a revelation in our hearts that causes our OLD MAN to die.

You shall KNOW THE TRUTH, and the truth shall make you free.

Elli was an old man,and very fat. That speaks of the OLD MAN in our lives that is VERY FLESHY...much carnality.

1 Samuel 4:18 KJV And it came to pass, when he made mention of the ark of God, that he fell from off the seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck brake, and he died: for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.
When we hear the TRUTH of the death of Jesus, it slays the old man by a revelation in our hearts.

Phinehas and Hophni, his sons, speak of the works of the flesh -- our sinful activities. FIST FIGHTER and MOUTH OF THE SERPENT. People fuss with each other and their words are from the devil, the serpent, when the old man rules their lives. As these were boys of Eli, they speak of WORKS OF THE FLESH from the OLD MAN. They stop and are slain, so to speak, when we RECEIVE the revelation from Paul.
