That is what all these sorts of threads are pointing to -- supporting standard keeping. No pants on women and no makeup, jewelry, etc. So do not use the smoking and drugs thing.

The bible gives common sense principles to abide by. regarding the undergirding spirit of standards that this thread is really about, God gave a principle that applies to every culture and generation in Deut 22.:5. Men dress like men and women dress like women. He did not dictate what the mode should be because God was relying on culture to determine that. IOW, he mentioned nothing about pants. This is how the bible gives PRINCIPLES. The bible said to not abuse the body, too. That covers obvious abuses like smoking and drugs, etc. But it is abuse of the bible. speaking of abuse, to say the bible teaches pants on men alone unless the culture of the day generally prohibited pants on women. Let's not discard the basic common sense of biblical PRINCIPLES, nor confuse details into them that are not there..
Amen.

If it is God's will for your illness then why are you seeking medical attention to get rid of it?

Re: Pastors

The "rule over you" has been used by many to literally believe they rule/lord over the Body. Totally opposite of Our Lords teaching.

Matthew 20:25–28

25 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 26 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Pastor-ship today resembles a high priest go between. The early church was overseen by a plurality of Elders. Now it's the dictate of one man. Some Apostolics overseers are sporting roman collars and robes!! I knew of one who carries a staff!! LOL.

My head spins at the possibilities! Maybe I could even get one of those overstuffed "chief seats" chairs for the platform!

Actually that would be, or should be, Yoda. Or at least the Jedi Council.

Multiple English word equivalents to each key Hebrew and Greek word clarify and amplify meanings that may otherwise have been concealed by the traditional translation method. The Amplified Bible present on the Bible Gateway matches the 1987 printing.

True, it just helps to explain. The New English Translation is also a good bible study aid and provides the greek words. Very helpful when trying to understand the KJV. Although some people don't like anything but the KJV

If you just blindly follow what the pastor thinks it could get you into trouble quickly. The pastor needs to be in line with the word of God. If we don't know what word of God says, how will we know if what the pastor is teaching/preaching/instructing is right? The bible teaches us to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling. (Phil 2:12) We need to know what we believe and why we believe it so we aren't fooled by false prophets.

As far as convictions, we'll all have our own convictions but the bible does teach that we need to be considerate of other's convictions as well. Here's the verse:

I Corinthians 8:13 (KJV) Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.

Re: Pastors

Is it safe to assume that anyone who disagrees with one's own pastor is a false prophet? If we accept his teachings as scripture, knowing the scriptures themselves teach obedience to him, how can anyone else be "right" too?

We'll make a nice spot in the corner for ya, Hoovie, padded with sackcloth, and layered in chimney ashes. You'll feel right at home!
