Re: Pitfalls in Solely Relying on Acts for doctrin

But not everyone who receives the gift of the Holy Spirit, even though they speak in tongues then, is receiving the gift of tongues at the same time.

To use myself as an example, I'm like millions of believers who speaks/prays in tongues at will. That is a manifestation of the gift of tongues, which we sometimes refer to our "prayer language". (In my case, this didnt come to me until a few years after I initially received the gift/baptism of the Spirit and spoke in tongues)
... But I have never given a "message" in tongues [with accompanying interpretation] as other people I know. That is also a separate manifestation of the gift. Paul addresses both of these in 1 Cor 14.

This is very hard to follow. It's the "Gift" of tongues when praying in tongues... but not the gift when "speaking in tongues" is evidence...

Don't get me wrong. I totally understand what France is saying through my UPC OP lens... but when I take those off I don't get it.

It seems like we are saying the "Gift of tongues" is a trinity. They receive the Gift of tongues - in one manifestation when the Holy Spirit comes, another gift of tongues may or may not come to be used in prayer language. Yet a third manifestation may or may not come which is meant to be interpreted.

Sorry but this seems bogus. It's a way for the whole church to be engulfed in tongue speaking, while still yet claiming to abide by the instruction of Paul to the Corinthians. After all, that was tongues in modus operandi Alpha not Beta or Gamma so it's fine!
