IF God is Love...
IF God IS love then why did God hate Esau?

Let it be understood that Apostolic Friends Forum is an Apostolic Forum.
Apostolic is defined on AFF as:
- There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
- The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
- Every sinner must repent of their sins.
- That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
- That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
- The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Esau chose to despise the blessings of God.
Therefore he made himself the enemy of God.
James 4:4 says if you chose the world you become the enemy of God, you are opposing God in your mind
either we submit to the government of God, or we submit to the government of the devil.

God hated what Esau represented which was the flesh, the old man, Adam. while his brother jacob represented the new man, the inward man, of the promise..
Esau represented what we were,
God's whole plan is about the new creation; which is Christ in us..

Just because God is love does not mean He cannot hate. Being love means it is the greatest part of His nature. That means He has other aspects, but He is not said to BE those aspects as He is said to BE love.

In that day you’ll find that in an adoption, if one was chosen and the other not, it was said that one was loved and the other hated. It’s not really a hate like we think of today but just a term in those days.

Jude 1:21 says we are to keep ourselves in the love of God
Deuteronomy 7:7-13 If he keep his commandments he loves us, if we don't keep his commandments he will destroy us

If all things came from God, then does both love and hate come from God? Perhaps, we really don't have a complete handle on God? Perhaps, he is pure love, but can disseminate hate in a way we do not understand? Perhaps, this a situation of an ant (us) attempting to understand the mind of an elephant (God)?

He hated Esau so his purpose according to election might stand.
9:11 (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth 
9:12 It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.
9:13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. Romans 9:11-13
