Re: Spell Checker and made up UPC words - DENOMINA

We got grandma a set of denominals for Christmas last year. Our girls love to play "change the train" with her.

Not exactly the same but another funny anecdote nonetheless:

My Pastor, who I've never heard preach "standards", told me that when he was a young evangelist, he was a hardcore UC "standards" preacher. One night while harping on the subject, he said this: "These women who wear dresses to church and secretly wear pants outside of church, they try to tell people they don't wear pants, WELL I'D LIKE TO GET IN THEIR DRAWERS!!!!"

Needless to say, he backed waaaaay off on the standards issue!

INCREDIBLE!
Thanks! I wonder if ALL Y'all are houser's?
Following the links at m-w.com, I suppose we could discover that "the noun" your adjective is derived from would be "denomination."

What stood out to me was the fact that "denominal" appears to have been coined at about the same time the UPC started trying to get women to stop trimming their hair and to stop wearing slacks. They're all a novelty and don't say anything about the ancient roots of our Christian faith.

The word "hippie" was coined under the same circumstances, as were many other words.

Re: Spell Checker and made up UPC words - DENOMINA

Denominal - In grammar, denominal verbs are verbs derived from nouns. Also known as "Denominative Verbs".

Noun: Destruction
Verb: Destruct

So let's break down "Denomination"
Noun: Denomination
Verb: Denominal

So, some edumacation on your part would be great before you run others down.

Are they using it in the correct context? Probably not.
