Paul never mentioned the devil in this context. He was talking about the Lord Jesus.

The word in 2 Cor 5:11 means "reverence, as for one's husband." I don't think this means the kind of "terror" you are thinking..and seem to be proposing.
It's more like, "knowing the deep reverence and respect we have for the Lord we love and adore..." And...suddenly, we're back to love.
