Re: Old Time Pentecost

I wonder if Bro Holmes' church and Bro Paul's church were similar. I really don't think so.

Outdated Pentecostal religion with a backward looking focus on an idenity rooted on styles of the past... and no vision for the future.

I had an "old time" Pentecostal preacher tell me that if I wanted to be certain I was saved, I should shave my beard. The pastor stated that he doesn't believe a man can be lost because he chooses to wear a beard, but as pastor he'd "never let a man with a beard hold authority in his church"...

Good analogy!

It makes me ask the question, though. Do you think strict standards people could ever be "in harmony" with those who are not strict in standards?

I'd love to hear Bro. Epley's response on this question, too.

typical strawman. show me a church anywhere in America that does . Funny you would argue against Bro Holmes' church considering he is more to the liberal side.

Not without some kind of intervention, lol.

There are individuals within each side who can, but the majority with always have a preconceved opion of the other. The WPF will judge the UPCI and the UPCI will believe the WPF are too strict. The UPC that went WPF down the street will not even fellowship (not even out of church) with us because "we don't preach the truth". And likewise there are some in our church that has reservations about the liberal pentecostal church in town that used to be UPC.

Sure. We did for a number of years until the liberals started shoving immodest apparel at conferences (especially those with young people), having 'modeling' contests, having boys attire themselves with women's hose and shoes and run around the sanctuary, openly advocating television and movies, music that was increasingly worldly for worship, etc. At that point, something had to be done. Up until that point, it was sleeves, rings, and splits. And we managed to get along with one another for the most part just fine.

I believe you statement is more accurate with the UPCI's opinion of the WPF. I have heard many times people in the WPF say that there are many good men left in the UPC. We can no longer walk in the same organization because of where it is going.

Bro. Booker still has UPCI preachers preach for him, as well as independent preachers. My father has preached for men in the UPC, WPF, and independents. I have attended UPCI sponsored events. I have even visited UPCI churches. This is not a new thing, and will continue to be done where ever we may find brethren to fellowship with.

Wish this were true here, my daughters and a couple of friends went to a UPC event and all of them recieved the Holy ghost and were baptized in Jesus name there. when they returned one friend of 6 years went to a WPF church down the street by invitation. Now, 1year later, she tells my daughters they are not saved because they "talk" to other kids in school who are not in church. We have invited her to come to a function, youth rally , or any service (since their service is not the same time as ours). Her answer is always the same, 'Your church does not preach the truth".

Its sad really. and Im not sure it will ever be repaired.

That is so wrong. How would she expect otherwise for your kids to learn how to interact with people outside the church?
