You can't compare a food label to the apostolic label because apostolic is a subjective term. Many denominations claim to be apostolic. The catholics make as compelling of an argument as the charasmatics, and pentecostals.

That doesn't mean someone can't have their own definition to distinguish them from other groups that believe differently. Saying it's about validating worth is a rather judgemental statement.
