Yes I certainly can't blame the world because I failed and melded with it in the first place, but at I am trying to get back into church and get active again. I certainly miss church a lot... I always missed church I just became very lazy when I was out and didn't particularly want to go anywhere.

Re: A Word Of Advice
The most important thing you can do is get a GOOD prayer life going on. Really conversate with the Lord. My pastor preaches a minimum one hour a day maintenance prayer, I pray two though because I was always a guy of excess. Fasting is important, you should fast at least one day a week. And read your word every chance you get. You can't fail doing these things.

Re: A Word Of Advice
We are told "Be in the world,..." but it should be as a light. I think ideally a seeker would be prepared by about 18 for this. Most Christians skip over this entirely, imo.
Ya, fast for a week, that was freeing.

Re: A Word Of Advice
You have to get where you love the things of the spirit more than the things of this world, and your own flesh. That's pretty much the bible in a handshake.

Re: A Word Of Advice
Matt, were you ever homeschooled or know anyone who was?
You have just mentioned several cliches which have been consistently disproven over the last 40 years. I know this because I attended all three branches of educational systems. The image of the stereotypical backward, gawky, and socially ignorant homeschool student has been routinely presented by the liberal media in perfect conjunction with the public schools and teacher's unions.
Mom homeschooled me and my brothers for most of our education. I recently discovered that among second graders, I scored in the 94th percentile with only six percent of students in the second grade scoring better or equal to me. The public school wanted to put me into 'special ed'. My parents pulled me out of public school at the end of that year and my younger brother the year after. I have the documentation that was given to her that can verify this claim.

I agree. You do not skin a fish before it is caught, and many times you must pray that the Spirit will convict them of their sins.

You must also love Jesus more than you love any one else on earth and be ready to walk alone if necessary.

Essentially I'm talking about someone who's as well as being homeschooled is completely cut off from all aspects of the real world, and is only allowed to interact with kids from the church. Someone "raised in the church". Sorry, I guess I should have made myself more clear, I was being too general. My homeschooling experience was determined on many other factors, in why it didn't turn out to be the thing for me. I personally thank God, as, if my mom hadn't fought for me to be put in public school, even going against my old pastor's wishes, I would have been that socially inept kid, raised in the church.

That's what I'm talkin about Jay. Conviction. PERSONAL conviction. Especially if said sin isn't determined by the bible. I'm gonna pm you and lay what happened on you, and see what you think.

Obviously can't argue with your experience, and certainly agree Homeschooling is not for everyone, but I have not seen many of those "inept" homeschoolers... conversely, I have seen homeschoolers excel socially - relating well to all age groups rather than just among peers. Though we are "Apostolic", church is not the only interaction my homeschoolers receive. They are active in sports, music, theater, community groups and homescool groups.
Their "field trip" last week was meeting John Glenn and Scott Carpenter who are about eighty years their senior and as far as I know not Pentecostal.

Matt, I was raised in the church while being homeschooled. I am sorry that it did not work out for you, but I would never trade it for anything. I can generally tell if a young person is homeschooled because they seem to be more intellegint than those who go to a modern public school. I do not think that I have missed a guess yet (if I did, it was because they went to private school).
Matt, I would recommend that you find some homeschoolers to talk to. I can promise that we blow minds.
