There's a fundamental difference between following and chasing. Either way, you can teach your children to cooperate with strange armed men who chase them for no reason. I, for one, hope that a precedence is set in this case that will preclude it from happening in the future. If I had a teenage child and I caught a grown man chasing him or her for no reason, he would have to deal with me.
When my son reaches his teen years I will teach him many things. Among them...theres no reason to go out walking in the rain late at night in other folks neighborhoods. If you choose to do so...expect peopel to be suspicious.
Also, if someone is following you, either call the police, go to a house and knock on the door to ask for help, run away, or you could even ask the person what they want. They may just wonder why you are walking around their neighborhood in the rain when you don't live there.
At no point will I teach him, hide and then jump the person when they get close enough.

Wow. Everytime I say I'm done with this thread, I see something that drags me back in .
I find it almost humorous how people on both sides of issues can have such double standards or can be so guilty of what they accuse the other side of. You accuse others of assuming too much and jumping to conclusions, but your account of what happened is even more guilty in my opinion. I have been quick to point out that we do not know with absolute certainty what all happened in the actual confrontation and I think anyone presuming to know as much as you do is doing just that ...presuming.
Speaking of double standards you never did respond to me questioning why you would discuss the school records of the juvenile, but not the arrest record of the adult. If you're not careful, you will become guilty of what you are accusing the other side of doing. And for the record, I never said he was an innocent 17 year-old as I feel like that is almost an oxymoron anyway.
Either way, since you are so interested in the records and reputations of the two involved, consider this from the Drudge report:
George Zimmerman was fired from his job as a security guard in 2005 for "being too aggressive," a former co-worker told the New York Daily News. "Usually he was just a cool guy. He liked to drink and hang with the women like the rest of us," his former coworker said. "But it was like Jekyll and Hyde. When the dude snapped, he snapped. He had a temper and he became a liability. One time this woman was acting a little out of control. She was drunk. George lost his cool and totally overreacted. It was weird, because he was such a cool guy, but he got all nuts. He picked her up and threw her. It was pure rage. She twisted her ankle. Everyone was flipping out."
Zimmerman was arrested in 2005 and charged with resisting officer with violence and battery of law enforcement officer, both which are third-degree felonies. The charge was reduced to resisting officer without violence and then waived when he entered an alcohol education program. Zimmerman also had an ex-fiance make a court allegation of domestic violence.

SANFORD, FL (RNN) - The embattled neighborhood watch captain who admitted to shooting and killing a Florida teenager will be facing charges, according to the Washington Post.
Citing a law enforcement official involved in the case, the Post said Florida special prosecutor Angela Corey will announce as soon as Wednesday afternoon that charges will be filed against George Zimmerman for the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.
It is unclear what charges he will face.

I used to live half a mile away from a Kroger and I would not let my two boys walk there, after dark.
Too much can happen, even in the best of neighborhoods.
Here is an interesting non-relevant fact.
Sanford, FL has a curfew of 11 pm on weekdays for everyone 16 and under.
For those who have been suspended or expelled from school it is 9 pm, again for 16 and under.
Angela Corey, the special prosecutor investigating the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, is scheduled to hold a 6 p.m. EDT press conference in Jacksonville, Fla., on Wednesday, where she is expected to charge George Zimmerman in the 17-year-old's killing.
According to the Associated Press, Zimmerman will be charged with 2nd-degree murder. Corey's office confirmed the press conference but did not elaborate on the details. According to the AP, Zimmerman is in custody. According to CNN, he turned himself in.
I wonder if his attorneys knew this was coming yesterday?

Strange that one Florida DA, no billed Zimmerman and special prosecutor comes out with 2nd degree, not manslaugther or not third degree, but the highest possible charge under the circumstances. That is a wide gap of opinion. (Public pressure??)
So, let's now see the evidence in court and see if they can prove it. If so, George is in deep trouble. Let's also see if Holder piles on with a federal hate crime charge.

I don't think the DA waited for all the evidence, or even the autopsy to be finished.
