I do not believe the ''UPC way'' is a lock or monopoly on truth, so I do not believe Jerry Falwell is in a hellhole of literal fire. He is however, dead in the "place of the unseen".

OK, Prax and Dan, we all got it. Prax doesn't believe JF was a "great" christian leader, Dan does.

That's not the primary responsibility nor should it be the focus of the message. The message is to be to the family to provide comfort, but it can also be instructive and should be in my opinion.

You can always preach Jesus, plant seeds and pray that they bring a harvest. But, please don't make a revival service of it, for the most part the family is too distraught to receive it at that time.

Reviving the dead? LOL.
I understand the point you're making. I've found that families are also often more tender and receptive at this time than any other, but it's to be taken for granted that discretion, wisdom, tact and following the leading of the Holy Ghost is always the way to go no matter what kind of service or situation a person find themselves in.

Paul said that. Or try this one:
"Though we or an angel from Heaven(much less a Baptist from Lynchburg)preach any other gospel let him be accursed"
I realize what Paul says does not mean much to you but there it is.
|
You assume that "your gospel" and Paul's "ministry of reconciliation" is one and the same as you quote pieces of scripture and add your interpretation.
Even if you are correct in that assumption, "being lost" by your own admission does not place one in "endless torment".

Yes, being a shoulder to cry on, attentive, loving and caring, can very well open the door to ministry. Sometimes we have to do the hard work of loving and caring, and literally living the gospel.
Proclamations from the pulpit are easy, loving folks in the trenches of their perishing lives is another matter.
From reading yours and your husbands post over many months I am confident the you guys know how to ministry to folks where they are.
